One way to see the Magic Square
of Saturn in DSotR...
216.88.24.134 writes: ...is to divide DSOTM into 9 songs, mirroring the 9 elements of this magic square, and then dividing them into successive groups of 3s. This is best visualized as an arrangement of 9 equidistant points on a circle, divided in 3 by an equilateral triangle. This division treats "Speak To Me" as an intro to "Breathe", "Breathe Reprise" as separate from "Time" (proper), and "Eclipse" as the coda of "Brain Damage"--all valid points I feel. Thus: GROUP I: (1) Breathe, (2) On the
Run, (3) Time (proper)
One
of the remarkable things about DSOTR is the high number of song transitions
highlighted by corresponding actions in TWOO. In the above scheme, all
are notably accented in this manner except those between songs 3
& 4, 6 & 7, and 9 & 1 (8 & 9 is also not accented: see
below). These points can be seen as an upright equilateral triangle within
the 9 point circle. As one can see, all of these unhighlighted transitions
just happen to be the links between the above 3 groups of songs. These
are also the places where what can be called "shocks" from the outside
fill in needed transitions. One is assumed: the third roar of Leo
the Lion that bridges 9-1 (Groups III & I). Understood properly, this
9-1 shock directly indicates the way that the other two gaps can be filled,
i.e., the transitions between Groups I & II (songs 3 & 4) and Groups
II & III (songs 6 & 7).
